Instruction focuses on the basics of education centering on core academic areas: math, reading, language arts, social studies, science, writing, music and PE. The core content areas of the performing arts program are: dance, music, drama, and theatre. Orchestra is for 4-6th graders only. Teachers are expected to follow grade-level curriculum guides provided in all core areas. The curriculum guides include a listing of student outcomes, describing what the student will learn at each level. By pre-testing and observing students at the beginning and throughout the year, the teacher will determine the appropriate learning level of each student. GENERAL INFORMATION
New Horizon School for the Performing Arts owns the building. Many charter schools "rent" space in a facility. New Horizon is in complete ownership of the facility. The professional lighting and sound in the dance room (cultural hall) is quite exraordinary. The basket ball court outside is also a volleyball court. The park across the street (north) gives students room to stretch their legs and enjoy the outdoors at breaks and at lunch times.
Free and reduced hot lunches are also part of the New Horizon School program. New Horizon is a certified "PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL sponsored by the Arizona Charter Board.
